Wedding Mommy (Dearest)

A few months ago now, my daughter Charis told me she was engaged. She had been raving on for several months about this wonderful young man, Terry, who she felt was "the one". She told me repeatedly how he listened to her, and how he actually thought her ideas were important. She said he did little things for her no one else ever had, and was willing to slay dragons and fight banshees for her.

Being the long-suffering mom that I am (did you just see me cringe when I said that?) I listened to her and did the "smile and nod" thing. I kept waiting for her to call me and regale me with stories of how he suddenly became insensitive to her or abusive, or any of the million other things that make moms go up in arms and onto planes to protect their daughters. I can thankfully say that call never came.

Instead I got the "I think he's going to ask me" calls. Then I got the "HE ASKED ME!!!" call accompanied by pictures. Lovely beach setting, lovely sunset, sister and best friend present and a BEAUTIFUL ring. Turns out he is really a lovely young man.

Now I am in wedding planning mode. Those of you know me also know that I like to stay busy. I graduated college in mid December and was glad to do so, because I had a wedding to plan. And I have been planning (with Charis' input) and have actually gotten a lot accomplished.

Wedding location - check
Reception location - check
Caterer - check
DJ - check

Did I mention the wedding is in my back yard? Reception too?
So, tent people - check
dance floor - check
tables - check
linen - check
wine - check

I could go on, but you get the point. The next BIG thing is making sure my yard is a lush, garden-like setting before May 22. But that is the subject of another post.

I welcome any helpful ideas from other wedding mommy's. I'll be waiting :)
